Biography
Maryam Tariq Al Futtaim (b. 2000, UAE) is a Dubai-based visual artist whose practice centers on oil painting. Rooted in observation and material exploration, her work draws inspiration from nature, texture, and organic forms, examining themes of transformation, memory, and time. Working through an intuitive, process-led approach, she revisits earlier paintings through acts of destruction, alteration, and reconstruction, allowing each work to evolve through cycles of making and unmaking. Layers of accumulation and erasure become records of the painting's history, revealing an ongoing dialogue between process, materiality, and form. Alongside her painting practice, Maryam is exploring weaving as an extension of these investigations. Drawn to weaving's ability to reveal both the journey and the destination, she explores how every thread carries the memory of the one before it. Through this evolving body of work, she connects the traditions of Emirati craft with contemporary artistic practice, expanding her exploration of memory, process, and material. Maryam holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Arts from Zayed University and is based in Dubai, UAE.
